One of the best ways to select a contractor is through recommendations from former customers who have recently contracted for

 landscape work. Another source for referrals is the Landscape Ontario Horticultural Trades Association.

But, regardless of recommendations, before hiring a contractor, you should:

• Request a list of references of similar jobs recently completed in your area.                                                                                                                                          

  Look at the work and talk to the homeowners and ask how their experience was

• Ask if the contractor has liability and workers' compensation insurance. Request certificates in writing.

• Verify that the contractor is a member of Landscape Ontario and or Certified Landscape Professional CLP.

  Ask to show proof of membership and that it is current, and is in good standing
